There's Snow Stopping Us

@bcfcboz,@brunone1,@benno112
Due to the recent unpredictable Great British weather over the last few weeks we have struggled to get out on the bikes.  Which is only a bad thing as you already know, we are all amateurs and we desperately need to get time in on the bikes.
Due to the weather being Pants again the numbers were always going to be low. Also with a lot of the riders working or had other things planned.  @heels4089 had a great excuse.  He became a dad for the second time on the Thursday so I suppose I can let him off.
@roseofdawood also became a daddy for the first time last week, so I can let him off as well.
The @larknlarks crew were all working and @melcastle69 was never getting out after an 18 hour session on the pop because the Birmingham city footy game was called off. Lol.
To quote one of @melcastle69's tweets on Saturday after the game was called off.  "we are Birmingham City, we'll drink where we want". Absolute BCFC nut cake. Lol

Anyway, that left just the 3 of us. Myself (@bcfcboz), Kevin (benno112) & Brownie (@brunone1)
9.15 @benno112 turns up whilst I'm eating my porridge as usual, shortly followed by @brunone1.
@brunone1 has turned up moaning (again) because his helmet in broke. He rested his helmet on his bike and it fell off with the adjusting strap 'twisty thingy' coming apart. He pulls his hand out of his pocket and shows us all the peices assuring us he can fix it.
After waiting for him for ten minutes or so and having listening to him swear at this poor defenceless helmet, he is happy that he's fixed it so we set off.
In the words of Catatonia and Tom Jones - "baby it's cold outside"
@brunone1 is wearing shorts again!!!!!! Haha #numpty
We set off at a good pace and before you know it we have span out 5 miles and we are just hitting the countryside. We notice that the roads have more icy patches so we lower the pace somewhat.  @benno112 decides its funny to try and kick snow at us whist we are riding beside him and trying to push us through the snowy sections on the road.  As you've probably seen from previous blogs, he's a bit of a joker.
The miles are ticking over and I can't feel my toes.  The hills are also taking there toll on us as we haven't been out for a while.

We get to 17 ish  miles and decide to stop for a little breather. Only to find a mound of snow which true to form, @benno112 couldn't resist but to play in.  At this point I get my phone out and capture the mood of our outing despite the conditions

On the stop off there was chat about heading home via one of the country pubs for a quick scoop. But after realising we only had £5 between us there was no way we was going to be seen outside a pub, drinking halves because we can't afford pints whilst dressed in Lycra. Haha

Somehow keeping up a pace of around 12mph we chew the miles up again. But then only to be overtaken by an attractive lady in full cycling Lycra gear. That put a spring in our pedal I can tell you.  @benno112 asked if that was @bevsmerklo from our twitfam?
To which I reply "no mate, she didn't have a glass of wine in her hand " Lol
She's always drunk in charge of a bike. Haha
We hit a long quiet road so I attempt to cycle a whole mile with no hands.  I get about half way and @brunone1 shouts that a van is behind.  At which, I pap my pants and cycle into a pile of snow at the side of the road.  The driver of the Sainsbury's van (other supermarkets are available) just laughs at me and drives off.  Them two nearly fell off there bikes laughing at me.  Nothing like friends ay?
Before we know it we are back in Olton.  Riding down Lyndon road we get "honked" at by a car.  Only to see its one of our fellow cyclist Matt Barnes.  We all salute him in true mate style.  Haha. Only to be returned with a similar salute.
At this point @brunone1 splits off towards his pad and @benno112 & myself head towards the wheatsheaf.
Looking forward to a nice cup of brew we churned out the final two miles.
We get back to see we've done a respectable 33.48 miles after a few weeks out.
Matt and Simon barnes went out for a spin on the afternoon and recon they done 16 miles. They didn't track the ride because Matt is a Manager at a bank and doesn't know how to use a phone. Haha
Well done guys.
My loving wife Emma made @benno112 & myself a nice cup of brew and a ham, cheese & whole grain mustard sandwich with some crisps to compliment.  No sooner had we polished off the sandwiches and drank our brew, Emma told me I was now about to paint the bedroom.
You've got to love a women's brain. Lol

We was ranked #57 on #followfriday this week as well.  thanks for your support people.
Don't forget to sponsor us please and tell your friends.

Peace and love

  1. We have crap weather all year and my hubby has took up cycling so after the 7th time of him falling ripping clothes etc due to ice we got him a trainer so he can cycle in the house in bad weather. You might find a trainer useful since there's more then just a personal goal to cycle for. Best of luck lads

I've gone 100 miles or more in a single day 5 times with totally inadequate training. You can too, if the snow & whatever dictates. Just a matter of being too stubborn to stop. Better to train steadily beforehand. Eat constantly, hydrate, start slow, you'll be fine. Don't get off for more than 5 minutes at a time. Well, 10 if you're stretching. Slow, steady. Relentless. It's amazing what you can accomplish.
